The Porsche 918 Spyder returns to the "Green Hell": in search of the lost throne?
The German supercar has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring circuit. The Lamborghini Huracán Performante, currently the fastest.
Four years ago, the Porsche 918 Spyder set the lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife among production cars. Moreover, the supercar stopped being manufactured almost two years ago. For this reason, it is surprising to see the hybrid supercar lapping the “Green Hell” today. What is the Stuttgart-based brand plotting?
The car in question appears to feature the Weissach package, a series of upgrades that boost this model’s performance and reduce its weight. The example in this video looks very similar to the one that set the record four years ago, and from what we could see, the car was not out for a casual drive around the Nürburgring. Is Porsche trying to reclaim the lost throne? That would be the most logical explanation. Let’s not forget that a few months ago, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante cut more than three seconds off the time set by the 918 Spyder. Still, we cannot rule out that the Zuffenhausen brand is preparing a new version of the Spyder. Only time will tell…
