The SEAT Alhambra could disappear and be replaced by a new SUV

The arrival of the SEAT Ateca seems to have caused a major shake-up in the Spanish brand’s future plans, and it appears that SUVs are set to gain momentum in the company’s upcoming line-up. These models could even replace some of the current ones and will set the pace. And one of those that could disappear shortly is the SEAT Alhambra.

The current body style of this seven-seat MPV no longer seems to be in fashion. Today’s buyers are looking for other body styles, and the one that is undoubtedly triumphing is the SUV. If the Ateca has opened the way, this is the path for SUVs in the brand’s line-up, so the offer of a family-oriented car with seven seats will be defined by the essence of off-road.

The new model will be inspired by the 20V20 concept and will arrive during 2018The SEAT Alhambra is six years old, so it is fairly recent. It has received only one update in that time and has enjoyed the trust of buyers of this type of vehicle. But it seems that 2018 is the year marked for its disappearance, since the focus has shifted away from this body style towards the one that appears to dominate in every country, the SUV.

This is the reason why, although late, SEAT has rethought its strategy and has opted to take part in selling models that are present across all the major brands, whether premium SUVs or more everyday SUVs. The Nissan Juke, the Renault Captur and other similar models dominate the market, alongside other more luxurious models. This SEAT will be based on the concept car 20V20, which was shown at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, so we have something to look at.

The presence of a seven-seat SEAT that follows this trend will be good news, although we will still have to wait until 2018. Will it be a wise decision? Do you think it’s a good idea that many of SEAT’s proposals are now oriented towards the SUV?
