The Toyota Hilux has serious stability problems

The following video shows how the Toyota pick-up gets into serious trouble during an obstacle avoidance test.

The eighth generation of the Toyota Hilux is not among the most stable pick-ups on the market, as can be seen in this video where it nearly rolls over. With 48 years of experience behind it, Toyota has created a van with a major problem: it is not stable during sudden changes of direction.

The Swedish publication Tekniken Världen, known for nearly rolling over the Mercedes A-Class from 1997 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee from 2012, has described the new Hilux as very unstable during evasive manoeuvres. After subjecting the vehicle to an obstacle avoidance test, the Hilux performed terribly at just 60 km/h. At even higher speeds, its competitors had no difficulty completing the same test.

The Toyota Hilux includes electronic stability control, but the absence of a rollover protection system combined with excessive grip from its tyres creates a high probability of rolling over, as pointed out by Ruben Borjesson, car tester at Tekniken Världen.
