The Volkswagen Amarok wins the 2018 International Pick-up Award

The pick-up world has, not so long ago, been rising considerably above the other segments. Many customers have already chosen this type of vehicle over a traditional off-roader. Manufacturers are starting to release more pick-ups, and Volkswagen was not going to be left behind. After a few years on the market, the Volkswagen Amarok has been especially honoured.

The Amarok has received the 2018 International Pick-up Award, which ranks it as the best in its segment this year. The jury of this award puts the participating vehicles through various tests and subjects them to different situations. Despite the toughness of the tests, the Amarok managed to come out with a very good score in all of them.

The German brand set out to create a vehicle that was traditional in its pick-up styling but at the same time modern and technological. The Amarok features a sober design that clashes with nothing and is, at the same time, clean and refined. This is something the jury took into account when choosing the German pick-up as the winner.

But styling is not the only thing considered. The cabin capacity and interior finishes were another factor taken into account when scoring the Amarok. The jury highlighted above all the interior space offered by the Volkswagen vehicle. It achieves this thanks to its double cab, which can comfortably seat up to five people.

The quality of the finishes and comfort on the road were also key. The materials used in the Amarok aim for high quality, avoiding noise inside and offering great comfort on the move. Even so, the mechanicals played a very important role in its selection as the best pick-up of the year.

Under its bonnet we find a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, which stands out for its refinement and performance. The powerplant delivers 224 CV, paired with an eight-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 4Motion four-wheel drive. This combination has allowed the Amarok to stand out both for its on-road capabilities and off-road.

Without doubt the Amarok presents itself as a very strong option against other vehicles, and its 65,200 units sold, 13.2% more than last year demonstrates this. But it is not only its qualities that make the Amarok a special vehicle; its price also does, starting from 28,720 euros.
