The Volkswagen Polo R will be shown in Geneva in its production version

The Volkswagen Polo R will make its debut in production form at the 2013 Geneva motor show, coinciding with the start of Volkswagen’s participation in the WRC.

Volkswagen has decided that the upcoming Geneva motor show is the right place to unveil the production version of its Polo R, just a few days before the start of the next WRC season. The German company wants to tie this new Polo as closely as possible to the rally world championship.

The link with the WRC is no coincidence, since the German brand will officially enter the WRC next year with the Polo WRC. Although the launch was not originally planned for as early as the Geneva show, it was decided to link its launch to promote Volkswagen’s entry into the world of rally competition.

The Polo R promises to be a real joy, judging by the initial specifications provided by Volkswagen. In terms of engine, it will feature the 2-litre turbo engine from the Golf GTI, along with a limited-slip differential, and acceleration figures that place the Polo at 6 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, with a top speed of 240 km/h.

The production version is expected to share the same features as the concepts of the Polo R WRC Street: sporty alloy wheels, WRC decals, much more generous exhaust pipes and a small spoiler, along with a rear diffuser and larger air intakes at the front.
