The CUPRA Formentor is the flagship SUV of the Spanish high-performance brand and, in addition to the petrol and diesel versions, there are two hybrid variants.

The CUPRA Formentor is the Spanish brand’s SUV and it has a very complete range. From the entry-level 150 CV version up to a much more powerful variant that doubles that output. In between, several diesel engines and two hybrid versions, which are the focus of this article. Let’s review the key points of this interesting high-performance SUV with a Spanish character.
Two power options available
The CUPRA Formentor Hybrid is available with a 1.4-litre engine, delivering 150 CV and 250 Nm of peak torque, combined with an 85 kW electric motor, equivalent to 115 CV. The first version offers a total output of 204 CV, while the second reaches 245 CV. Both feature an automatic DSG gearbox with six speeds and steering-wheel paddle shifters to heighten the driving experience.

Performance
The 204 CV CUPRA Formentor reaches a top speed of 205 km/h and its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is quoted at 7.9 seconds. The sportier 245 CV variant has a top speed of 210 km/h and its acceleration drops to 7 seconds.
Consumption
The average consumption of this model, when the combustion engine is used primarily, is 7 litres per 100 kilometres. This figure is recorded on long journeys, where the petrol engine is the main mode of propulsion. Considerable savings and emissions figures that fall when the combustion engine is used less. In hybrid mode, the 204 CV model’s consumption is between 1.2 and 1.4 litres per 100 kilometres. In the case of the 245 CV version it rises slightly: from 1.4 to 1.6 litres per 100 kilometres. CO2 emissions are, in this case, between 31 and 35 g/km.
Battery
The battery has a capacity of 13 kWh and can be charged from a domestic cable in 5 hours. With a wallbox, charging time is 3 hours and 33 minutes. The battery offers 59 kilometres of range on the WLTP cycle, so it qualifies for the DGT’s 0 environmental label.

Safety and equipment
Safety is important on this model. It comes equipped with seven airbags and driver fatigue detection. This is complemented by a suite of driver-assistance systems, such as emergency braking with turn assist and evasive assist. In terms of comfort equipment, it features Full LED headlights, a powerful three-zone climate control system, wireless phone charging, rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, and the Full Link system, which connects your smartphone, whether Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Cabin and boot
The cabin offers plenty of space to enjoy every journey. Despite being an SUV with a coupé soul, it provides enough room in the rear for comfortable travel. The boot is slightly smaller than in other versions of the model due to the battery placement, yet it still offers a considerable 345 litres of storage capacity.
Exclusive equipment
The hybrid variants have a different rear bumper and the charging socket. In front of the driver, a Digital Cockpit displays the various hybrid driving modes: electric, automatic hybrid and manual hybrid, which reserves the battery for urban driving, when it is most useful.
Connected
The CUPRA Formentor Hybrid can keep the owner informed about charging and other functions thanks to an app that can be downloaded to the phone. This application controls charging with a timer, can activate the climate control remotely so the cabin is at the right temperature when it is to be used, and offers other functions that enhance the use of the car.

The Formentor 1.4 e-HYBRID 204 CV DSG-6 is priced at €38,640 and the Formentor VZ 1.4 e-HYBRID 245 CV DSG-6 costs €45,350. From this you can deduct the state aid of €1,000 and the €1,000 discount for trading in an old car.
