This is the impressive Ford Escort Mk2 built in gold and diamonds
A jeweller from the United Kingdom has created a 1:25 scale model of Ari Vatanen’s Ford Escort Mk2. It will be auctioned on 2 May.
Ford wanted to go one step further and has developed a unique Ford Escort. That said, this new Ford Escort can never hit the road, and it can truly be described as an authentic jewel.
The new Ford Escort is a 1:25 scale model made in gold, silver and diamonds. It was developed by jeweller Russell Lord, who invested a great deal of affection and dedication, since Lord is himself a great motoring enthusiast.
Besides being a jeweller, Russell Lord has owned 55 units of the legendary Ford Escort over the years. It is worth highlighting that it took him more than 25 years to complete it with this spectacular result.

The chassis of the new Ford Escort model is made of silver. This automotive jewel features gold brakes and spoiler. In addition, the wheels and bonnet hinges are made of 18-carat gold.
For its part, the front grille is made of 18-carat white gold, the headlights are 72-point diamonds, the indicators are orange sapphires, while the rear lights are rubies.

An automotive jewel at scale
Russell Lord, a jeweller from Essex, United Kingdom, said that “it was a hobby I kept coming back to again and again, but three years ago I decided to finish it. I know this car inside out, so I didn’t plan anything; I built it from scratch, piece by piece”.
The luxury model of the Ford Escort is based on the competition car driven by Ari Vatanen in the late 1970s. Specifically, it is the Ford Escort Mk2. This 1:25 scale jewel has cost a staggering 90,000 euros in raw materials alone.
The gold and diamond model of Ari Vatanen’s Ford Escort Mk2 has an impressively realistic level of detail. If you look closely, you can see the rotating pulleys at the front of the engine, the movable platinum gear lever set with diamonds, or the glass windows.

To make the exclusive glass windows, the renowned jeweller had to break countless vases in order to find sections with the exact curve.
The model will now go to auction on 2 May. In addition, all proceeds will go to charitable causes.
