This is the new Kia Sorento 2020

We now know the final images of the new generation of the Kia Sorento. The fourth iteration of the SUV will be officially unveiled to the public on March 3.

The largest crossover from the Korean brand will make its debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The third generation Sorento, launched in 2015, did not achieve all the success that Kia had anticipated. That is why, only 5 years and several teasers later, the Koreans are showing us what this new, fourth generation will look like. A more attractive image, a more convincing design and a more mature style.

The new Kia Sorento evolves its design

The exterior of the Kia Sorento is more elegant than ever. It features more elongated and sharper proportions that give it the presence and muscularity so typical of current models, eliminating the heavily curved lines of the previous generation.

The front end evolves, and its grille, known as the “tiger nose,” is now wider and seamlessly integrates the headlights. These headlights feature new LED Daytime Running Lights which, thanks to the larger and more extensive grille, give it an aggressive look, or as Kia calls it, the “tiger eye.” New lights also appear at the rear. The rear end features a complete redesign of the rear lights, replacing their rounded and elongated design with a more geometric and vertical one. More modern, in short.

The brand has not confirmed its dimensions, but we do know that its front and rear overhangs are shorter and its wheelbase is longer. In other words, the new Sorento will offer greater and better interior spaciousness.

Once you step inside, the change to the Sorento is also for the better. Two consecutive screens give the interior a futuristic design. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system create a horizontal dashboard layout typical of premium brands. On the center console, Kia places two rotary knobs: one to control the automatic gearbox and the other to manage the different off-road driving systems.

New platform and ECO label

The new Kia Sorento will debut a platform for electrified vehicles. It will be available in all kinds of versions, such as an alternative plug-in hybrid that will combine an electric motor with a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The PHEV variant could exceed 40 km of electric range.

It will also offer conventional petrol and diesel versions. These versions will be accompanied by some form of micro-hybridisation, as we have already seen in the brand’s models such as the Sportage. With this, the new Kia Sorento would obtain the benefits of the DGT’s ECO label.
