This is the new one-megawatt charging system from Alpitronic for electric trucks

MCS charging systems for electric trucks, with a power of one megawatt, will allow drivers to recharge the battery during their midday rest stop, thus completing a working day without losing time on recharging

Alpitronic, an Italian company specialising in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, has just revealed the first details of its high-power charging system for electric trucks, capable of delivering up to one megawatt.

The company announced the upcoming availability of this high-power charging system during the E.ON Drive Summit, held in the German city of Munich in May of this year, where it promised that its market launch would take place in early 2025. However, we have had to wait until now to learn more details.

What new information do we now have about this Alpitronic charging system?

According to the company, this system, known as the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), is designed to support an output power of up to one megawatt per charging point with a maximum current of 1,500 amperes. The system’s efficiency has also been determined to reach 97 per cent, which places it as an extremely efficient solution. Alpitronic has emphasised that this system has been developed with scalability in mind, thus allowing future adaptations to market needs and possible performance improvements.

Another feature highlighted by the company is the reliability of the system. Based on its highly efficient silicon carbide (SiC) technology, Alpitronic has proven its worth in more than 80 million charging sessions with satisfactory results.

“Our new One-Megawatt Charging System represents a major leap forward in charging technology. By offering MCS charging capabilities, we are responding to the need of logistics companies to adopt electric trucks for long-haul transport, thus paving the way for the decarbonisation of the transport sector.”

Alpitronic plans to officially present its one-megawatt charging system at an exclusive event to be held in the Italian city of Bolzano during next February 2025. If all goes according to plan, production of this high-power charging system for electric trucks should begin during the second quarter of 2025.

All those whose job is to manage a fleet of commercial vehicles for road freight transport, and who are interested in this charging system, can obtain more information in the coming days at the company’s stand at IAA Transportation in Hannover.
