Top10: The most powerful SUVs on the market

The ten most powerful SUVs in the world come together in this article. A compilation of cars that, in terms of performance, are comparable to the most coveted supercars

Within the broad range of vehicles considered SUVs, there are everything from modest options, both in performance and in being cheap SUVs, to those with high performance and costs not suitable for every budget.

In any case, we have compiled the most powerful SUVs currently available on the market. Sporty SUVs, luxury SUVs, exclusive SUVs… but, when all is said and done, SUVs with homologated power outputs worthy of supercars whose standing acceleration well deserves that you buckle up tight… or strap in with a harness.

1. Rezvani Tank X

Rezvani Tank XThe world was given a tremendous jolt with the presentation of a kind of tank approved for driving on ordinary roads called the Rezvani Tank X. The company itself describes this car as an XUV, for Xtreme Utility Vehicle.

And we will not be the ones to question this new concept, especially knowing that this vehicle has a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine that produces 1,000 CV and 1,180 Nm of torque.

And everything in this beast is on a grand scale, as is its price: the Rezvani Tank X costs from 349,000 euros. Below this SUV, besides room for a good collection of city cars, there is a more “modest” 500 CV version starting at 155,000 euros.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

SUV 2018The most powerful version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was for a long time the most powerful production SUV in the world thanks to its 717 CV of power. This brutal SUV uses the same engine as a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, a 6.2-litre V8 that allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. In addition, this monster takes only 11.6 seconds to cover the quarter mile, reaching a top speed of 289 km/h.

Naturally, these performance figures come with a downside, especially for a V8 of such displacement, and that is fuel consumption: between 14 and 21 litres per 100 km. But, when all is said and done, who buys an SUV like this thinking about its consumption?

3. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid

Porsche Cayenne HíbridoIt was an open secret, a possibility beyond doubt that would arrive: one of the premium SUVs with an ECO or Zero label capable of running in electric mode for a distance, in this case, of 40 km. Thus, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid rockets up to the top step of the most powerful SUVs.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid is the electrified and over-powered version of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo with its 4.0-litre V8 engine, whose output rises from 550 horsepower to 680 CV thanks to the additional 100 kW (136 CV) provided by the electric system. In addition, thanks to its torque of 900 Nm it positions itself as the hybrid alternative to the Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI, also with 900 Nm, both natural towing machines. Thanks to its power and all-wheel drive, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 295 km/h.

Also available as a coupé body, the price of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid starts at 177,041 euros, to which 3,000 more must be added if you choose the extended body of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid Coupé.

4. Lamborghini Urus

SUV 2018

The first SUV from Lamborghini is one of the most controversial cars ever created but, also, one of the most beastly SUVs on the market.

The spiritual heir of the Lamborghini LM002 combines its radical design with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 650 CV of power. This SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 300 km/h.

Its consumption is not outlandish for the type of car and mechanical layout it has: 12.7 litres/100 km, though it is not among the most excessive on this list given the performance it offers. Its starting price, in line with the Lamborghini range, is from just over 240,000 euros.

5. Bentley Bentayga Speed

SUV más deportivos

The most beastly version of the Bentley Bentayga arrives in 2019 keeping the enormous 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine of Volkswagen origin, which in this variant rises above the 608 horsepower of the W12 to 635 CV.

Thanks to this power increase, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint drops from 4.1 seconds to 3.9, and the top speed rises from 301 to 306 km/h. Without doubt, the prototype SUV for the high aristocracy… of lofty ambitions.

6. Tesla Model X P100D

SUV más deportivos

The first electric SUV from Tesla is the fastest SUV on the market, at least in a straight line. Its electric propulsion system develops 612 CV of power, but this monster’s acceleration goes much further: 3.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. Thanks to its instantaneous acceleration, it is also the fastest SUV over the quarter mile, a run it completes in a sensational 11.41 seconds, allowing it to beat a supercar like the Lamborghini Aventador.

This model also ranks among the electric cars with the longest range, as it can travel up to 430 kilometres on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle, thanks to its 100 kWh battery. The price is 164,200 euros.

7. Audi RS Q8

Audi Rs Q8The fastest SUV to lap the Nürburgring circuit has 600 CV and 800 Nm of torque, fits the quattro all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, and with all this it is capable of a sprint from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 300 kilometres per hour.

This is the Audi RS Q8, the most extreme version of the largest SUV in the Audi family and one of the toughest among the most powerful SUVs on the market.

8. Maserati Levante Trofeo

maserati levante trofeo

The Maserati Levante Trofeo we tested features a twin-turbo V8 block of 3.8 litres of Ferrari origin, one of the latest examples of collaboration between both brands, a block considered one of the best engines of 2019 and which develops 590 CV of power and 730 Nm of torque.

Its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is 3.9 seconds and its top speed reaches 300 km/h.

9. Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic

SUV más deportivos

The new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic is the most powerful SUV from both Mercedes and AMG. Although it uses the well-known 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 engine already present in other models, and even in the Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 version, to which the S is added, it develops a maximum output of 585 CV of power and 770 Nm of torque.

Its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is 4.2 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Its price starts at 153,600 euros.

10. BMW X6 M

SUV más deportivos

And closing the ranking of the most powerful SUVs, tying on acceleration but losing on power, the BMW X6 M F16, whose engine is also a V8 but of smaller displacement (4.4), develops 575 CV. More than the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4Matic (557) but less than the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic.

As we noted, the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h of the second-generation BMW X6 M is set at the same 4.2 seconds and its top speed is also limited to 250 km/h. Overall the BMW X6 M is slightly cheaper, as it has a price from 143,600€.

Brands that will very likely be swiftly outclassed by the third and new generation of the BMW X6, whose 2020 X6 M version has already been spotted at the Nürburgring circuit.
