Toyota and Nissan recall 6.56 million cars

Both Nissan and Toyota have just carried out a worldwide recall for a large part of their vehicles, equivalent to 1.56 million Nissan vehicles and 5 million Toyota vehicles, to inspect a possible defect in the airbags supplied by Takata between 2003 and 2007. In Spanish territory, 102,849 vehicles of the two brands will be invited to visit their nearest dealership for an inspection that will be completely free of charge.
Focusing on Spain, Toyota will inspect the driver’s airbag on 16,056 RAV4, Hilux and Yaris models; while 37,408 Corolla, Yaris and Avensis Verso models must go to the nearest dealership to inspect the passenger airbag. By letter, Toyota will inform the customers and owners of these vehicles, advising them to visit their nearest Toyota dealership for this inspection, which will be completely free of charge.

In the case of Nissan, the models in Spain that must be inspected are the Pickup, Tino, Patrol, Almera, Terrano, Pathfinder and X-Trail, but only the older model from 2003 and focusing on the possible defects found in the passenger airbag.
Since 2008, almost 25 million vehicles worldwide have been recalled due to Takata airbags, which are estimated to have caused at least six deaths. The defect in the safety system could be in the airbag inflator, which could suffer moisture ingress over time, resulting in an abnormal deployment in the event of an accident.
