The first phase of trials of the compact electric has revealed certain shortcomings that the German company intends to resolve before the launch of the car in 2013, and one of the most significant problems that the fortunate participants in the project have pointed out is a drop in performance when the weather is cold.

But leaving the shortcomings aside, it is noted that the Mini E has managed to maintain a fairly attractive level of efficiency, since its average daily range was 44 kilometres, which means that users did not notice a difference in the performance of the model compared with a conventional one.

Another interesting point is that most drivers preferred to charge the car overnight, in this way they enjoyed a cheaper tariff and ensured the compact’s performance after every two or three days. Even 75% of users indicated that the introduction of public charging stations would not be a priority.

The director of Mini in the United Kingdom, Jochen Goller, stated that this first stage of testing gives the company a margin of feedback and suggestions that will help improve the car.

He is also confident that the second phase of testing, characterised by more rigorous urban and rural conditions, will allow the model to be refined in different respects.
