Ujet, the scooter you've dreamed of for the city is a reality

The new urban mobility models are giving rise to new types of vehicles that make life and transport easier for those who travel around large cities. This is the case of the new electric scooter that the company Ujet will present at the CES in Las Vegas, a vehicle that the brand plans to begin selling during the first six months of 2018 in both Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in other European cities.

When the CES opens its doors today, visitors will be able to see the two versions that will be offered of this unusual electric scooter: with a range of 70 km or 150 km, depending on the type of battery it fits, and a selling price of 7,400 euros for the first and 8,300 for the second.

The Ujet does not need to be connected to a charging station, as its battery can be easily removed. It is a portable battery that can be recharged from a standard electrical socket, since it is easy and comfortable to carry (it is barely the size of a briefcase) and has wheels so it can be pulled along like a small trolley. A fast charger (which Ujet offers among its available accessories) reduces the full recharge time of the battery to an hour and a half for the small battery and three hours for the large one.

The Ujet has a certainly unique and futuristic design that has been specially conceived for use in large cities and to make life easier for its users. At first sight, what draws the most attention are its spokeless orbital wheels, equipped with a suspension system and lightweight, large-diameter disc brakes.

But what really stands out about the Ujet is that it is a foldable model. This feature makes it especially appealing for those who travel every day from neighboring towns into the centers of large cities such as Madrid or Barcelona. Being foldable, besides taking up little space in the garage — it can share a single parking space with a car — it can be easily transported in the boot or cargo area of a car. In this way, people who live many kilometers from the city can park their vehicle in areas far from the centre, where, in addition to greater parking availability, there is no need to pay for parking, and get around the city centre with the Ujet.

But there’s more. Ujet offers an app that, through the mobile phone, allows the scooter to be locked and unlocked for use, its exact location to be tracked, and its efficiency, distances travelled or the carbon dioxide emissions its use has avoided to be monitored. In this way, the scooter can be shared by several users. The same app provides access, through a customised interface to various functions: navigation, voice control, reception of music and phone calls, etc. It also features an HD-quality camera that allows video to be recorded, downloaded and streamed.

The Ujet is a connected scooter. It has an integrated SIM card with 3G connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that provide total connectivity to its user at all times. Thanks to this and to the twenty sensors built into the scooter, the Ujet can detect potential operating problems in its main components, preventing possible breakdowns.
