The Elroq features a ‘Futuristic’ sound that not only meets safety regulations, but is also a symbol of Škoda’s new identity
The Škoda Elroq, the latest electric launch from the Czech brand, impresses not only with its design, but also with its innovative sounds designed specifically to improve pedestrian safety through the introduction of the new E-noise. We have already seen previously both the sustainable interior of this new model, as well as its stunning design and its electric version.
The designers have created two distinctive sounds for this model. The first, called Futuristic, is present in all driving modes except Sport, and is an essential part of the mandatory acoustic warning system in electric vehicles. At low speeds, electric cars, as they do not emit the typical combustion engine noise, must comply with regulations requiring the emission of a sound that warns pedestrians of their presence. This sound strikes a perfect balance: it is audible enough for pedestrians but does not disturb the vehicle’s occupants, ensuring a quiet driving experience.
A new approach to sound design
The Futuristic sound has been developed to align with the brand’s new identity and its Modern Solid design language. This not only makes it an acoustic warning, but an extension of the brand’s character. “We want everything associated with Škoda to sound coherent, from our advertisements to the sound of our vehicles,” explains Miroslav Jaskmanicki, of the brand’s design team.
For those seeking a more dynamic experience, the Sport mode introduces a more emotional and powerful sound, with lower frequencies that evoke a more sporty driving style. In this mode, the Elroq elevates the acoustic experience for both pedestrians and occupants, offering a unique touch that goes beyond regulatory requirements.
Months of development for a perfect sound
The development of the Škoda Elroq’s E-noise was a process that took several months of work and involved a multidisciplinary team that included design, electronics and vehicle verification engineers. The team began in the laboratory, evaluating different sound profiles and adjusting the tones to better reflect the Elroq’s character. “The sound had to be realistic, evolve with the vehicle’s speed and comply with all legal regulations,” comments Jaromír Žák, one of those in charge of the project, which has managed to respect the sound aesthetic that Škoda seeks in its vehicles.
Acoustic warning systems
The Škoda Elroq is not the first vehicle from the brand to adopt the AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System), but it marks the beginning of a new generation of electric sounds. With this advance, Škoda continues to demonstrate its commitment to safety, without neglecting design and innovation, offering a unique driving experience for both occupants and those who share the road.
