Volkswagen I.D Buzz: an electric microbus with eight seats and 380 CV
This electric MPV and the I.D concept mark a new era for Volkswagen. The I.D Buzz has been presented at the Detroit Motor Show.
The I.D Buzz prototype has been unveiled by Volkswagen at the Detroit Motor Show. This electric MPV offers a range of 600 km and high power: 380 CV. It has a capacity for 8 passengers.

With this model, Volkswagen has made a major step forward in the production of zero-emission vehicles. The electric microbus is built on the manufacturer’s new MEB Modular Electric Platform and offers generous cabin space thanks to its length of 4,942 mm, width of 1,976 mm and height of 1,963 mm. Its wheelbase is also considerable, at 3,300 mm, which provides excellent interior roominess. In addition to its eight seats, the I.D Buzz has enough space at the rear to store bikes and surfboards.

This new prototype has a range of 600 km and recharges 80% of its battery in 30 minutes. This microbus has all-wheel drive and introduces a fully automated driving mode (I.D. Pilot) that will reach the market in 2025. It also includes an augmented reality system that projects 3D information into the driver’s field of vision.

The electric motors of the I.D Buzz, located on the front and rear axles, deliver a combined power of 380 CV. This MPV reaches 100 km/h in just five seconds, and its top speed is limited to 160 km/h.
Besides breaking with convention, the presentation of the I.D. Buzz outlines the core principles on which Volkswagen can build the future of the brand.
“The I.D. BUZZ represents the new Volkswagen: modern, positive, emotional and future-oriented. By 2025, we want to sell one million electric cars a year, making electric mobility the benchmark of Volkswagen. The new e-Golf already offers 50% more electric range. From 2020 onwards we will launch our I.D family, a new generation of fully electric and connected cars. They will be affordable for millions, not just for millionaires,” says Chairman of the Board of Management Dr. Herbert Diess.

It is worth recalling that 4 months ago Volkswagen unveiled the smaller sibling of this microbus at the Paris Motor Show: the I.D. Concept. This compact electric vehicle will go on sale in 2020 with a range similar to that of the I.D. Buzz (600 kilometres) and is the first production car on the MEB platform. It is also the first Volkswagen prototype to adopt a fully autonomous driving mode.
