Volkswagen ID. Roomzz: a family electric SUV with 450 km of range
Volkswagen presents the VW ID. Roomzz at the Shanghai Motor Show, an electric SUV with three rows of seats and 450 km of range, which could reach the market in 2021.
We have a new member of the ID. family of electric cars from Volkswagen. It is called VW ID. Roomzz. For now it is presented as a prototype at the Shanghai Motor Show. But we could see it as a production car in 2021, initially for the Chinese market.
On this occasion we are looking at a car whose dimensions place it squarely among the large SUVs. Indeed, the VW ID. Roomzz measures 4.91 metres long, has a width of 1.89 metres and reaches a height of 1.76 metres, with a wheelbase of 2.96 metres.

It is, therefore, a vehicle of similar length to a Volkswagen Touareg, which it exceeds in height, while being slightly narrower.
A new concept of space
With its almost five metres of length and a generous wheelbase, the ID. Roomzz has the necessary foundation to offer a cabin ready to be enjoyed as a rolling living room. The icing on the cake is the variable concept developed for the interior, which is easily accessed thanks to the four sliding doors and the absence of a centre pillar.

Volkswagen proposes here a cabin with three rows of seats that the driver and passengers can adapt to the situation. This is especially interesting in a car that offers level 4 autonomous driving. Thus, thanks to the Pilot mode, in urban traffic, for example, the occupants of the two front seats could turn their seats to interact with the rear passengers.
When this happens, the dashboard, conceived as a huge digital board, will take care of integrating the steering wheel, which will become available again when the driver has to take back control.

Other innovations proposed by the Volkswagen ID. Roomzz for passenger comfort are the seat upholstery in a new renewable material called AppleSkin, or the ClearAir system with active filters that ensure the interior air is always free of harmful elements.
306 CV of power, up to 450 km of range
To propel the ID. Roomzz, Volkswagen has chosen a configuration with two electric motors, one on each axle, which together deliver 225 kW (306 CV). In this way, the SUV also features 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The two motors allow the ID. Roomzz to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, and reach an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

As for range, its 82 kWh battery would be sufficient for the VW ID. Roomzz to cover 450 km before needing a new charge, according to the WLTP cycle. Prepared to use charging powers of up to 150 kW, like the new Audi e-tron, the new electric SUV from Volkswagen could reach 80% of its battery capacity in around half an hour.
