Several manufacturers want to enjoy the benefits that selling electric cars in the largest car market in the world will bring them; however, so far only a few alliances have confirmed the development of an alternative for that market.

For this reason, it is worth mentioning that Volkswagen has announced plans to produce 10,000 electric cars in China, which must be sold within a maximum period of four years; that is to say, the company’s outlook for the second half of the decade uses the sale of the VW Lavida EV as its benchmark.

Let us recall that the Lavida was originally presented at the 2008 Beijing Motor Show, and since then it has been manufactured exclusively for the Chinese market. Furthermore, due to the acceptance and popularity the saloon has enjoyed since its introduction, the company decided to develop an electric variant of the car as the preferred option for China.

On the other hand, the German manufacturer confirms that the model is being developed in cooperation with SAIC Motor and FAW Group, and also states that the electric saloon will offer a range of 150 km per charge.
