Volkswagen will offer sustainable energy for the home
Volkswagen is launching a range of sustainable solutions in partnership with Eli, a subsidiary of the German group.
The group Volkswagen has created a new company dedicated to energy and charging solutions. The German manufacturer aims to become a leading provider of sustainable mobility, and the creation of Elli Group GmbH shows that its intentions are firm. Headquartered in Berlin, this subsidiary of the Bavarian group will develop sustainable products and connected services intended for the Group’s brands.

“As one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, Volkswagen is going to accelerate the urgent and necessary transition of transport and energy towards emissions-neutral electric mobility. The new company will play its part with energy offers from renewable sources and smart charging solutions. In this way, we are entering a strategically relevant and extremely exciting business area that opens a considerable number of opportunities to strengthen ties with existing customers, as well as reach entirely new consumer groups,” says Thomas Ulbrich, Head of E-Mobility on the Executive Committee of the Volkswagen brand.
The ecological solutions that Volkswagen will implement
The new company of the Volkswagen Group will offer its customers different solutions, among which the following stand out:
- Green energy from 100% renewable sources for homes.
- 11 kW Wallbox for safe, fast and convenient charging at home.
- High-end DC charging station (22 kW of power). This component can turn the electric car into an energy storage system thanks to bidirectional charging and connection to an energy management system.
- Expansion of charging stations in the car parks belonging to the Volkswagen Group. It will grow from the current 1,000 spaces to 5,000 by 2020.
- Roadside charging: charging points will be built in public spaces with digital payment.

“Our mission is to take electric mobility out of its niche and firmly place it in a more general scene. The name “Elli” comes from “electric life”, because we want to foster a lifestyle that fully integrates the electric car into people’s daily lives. This approach could be compared to the use of the mobile phone, which is now taken for granted. We will create a sustainable and seamless system that targets the main applications and provides answers to all energy-related questions raised by electric car users and fleet operators,” says Nicklass, former CEO of the joint venture Digital Energy Solutions.
