Volvo and Siemens join forces to drive the electric car business forward

The future Volvo electric C30 will feature many Siemens components, as the Swedish brand has signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement covering the supply of parts and technology for the brand’s future electric models.
Volvo and Siemens hope to bring the first of a new generation of technologies to the growing electric car segment, especially in relation to battery charge management. The motors supplied by Siemens will deliver 108 hp, with 220 Nm of torque for the C30, but the project goes a step further: in 2012 the production version of the plug-in hybrid V60, featuring Siemens components, will reach the market.
The first step for Siemens and Volvo will be building 200 units with Siemens components, to carry out an in-depth testing programme from the start of 2012, the year in which Volvo had also announced the first deliveries of the model.
It seems the Swedes don’t want to leave anything to chance, even though these will overlap with the first generation of electric C30s, which do not feature Siemens-made elements.
