Volvo lays off 2000 employees

Ford has announced the layoff of 2000 employees at the Swedish brand to offset the rising cost of raw materials, a move it expects will save 427 million euros.
1200 workers have been informed of their fate in Sweden, and the rest will be notified over the course of the week. In total, 1400 office staff and 600 blue-collar workers will stop working very soon.
But that is not all, as rumours about the sale of Volvo keep coming, since sources close to Ford have reported that the Chinese giant Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp is interested in the Swedish luxury marque.
Last year, Ford’s chief executive, Alan Mulally, commissioned a strategic analysis of the situation at Volvo, whose conclusions were not encouraging, which is why the possible sale of the Swedish manufacturer was among the options under consideration.
But despite the constant rumours, Ford still denies the inevitable, so we will have to wait some time to learn the future of Volvo.
