Volvo unveils the S60 Concept

Volvo has just unveiled information and images of the S60 Concept that it will present in Detroit in 2009. It is expected to go on sale by 2010. The Volvo S60 Concept shows us a new saloon with sportier lines, bold and in keeping with the rear design of the XC60 (at least at the front).

At the rear, LED-type lights appear, and the design also changes from the current one, with slimmer, sportier headlights. Inside we find the famous floating glass centre console, and the gear lever remains horizontal while stationary or in automatic mode, but for sequential mode it rotates back to its normal position.

Another important novelty will be safety. Volvo already introduced part of its technological arsenal in the Volvo XC60, and this new S60 is expected to feature systems such as the “Collision Warning” collision prevention system with full automatic braking thanks to a set of radars, a camera and a control unit to reduce both pedestrian impacts and collisions at low speeds as well as at high speeds.

The new Volvo cruise control, Active Cruise Control, has been improved to adapt to the speed reduction of the vehicle ahead or to a stop, something it did not do before. And in the engine range, there will be a GTDI (direct-injection turbocharged petrol) with around 179 CV, paired with the Powershift dual-clutch gearbox, and the engine will also carry the Start/Stop system and other features to reduce consumption and emissions.
