Volvo updates the Volvo On Call app

The Swedish brand has announced the launch of the new 2013 version of its Volvo On Call app for smartphones. This update adds a series of functions for interaction between the vehicle and the owner, as well as a wider variety of information collected by the system. For now it is available to download in sixteen countries through the App Store, Google Play and Microsoft Market, including Spain.

The new features of Volvo On Call begin with a route log designed for vehicles used as company cars. It records the journeys made over the last forty days and allows them to be transferred and saved to a computer. It can also display them on Google Street View and organises data such as fuel consumption or speed into Excel spreadsheets.

Another new feature is the ability to schedule a destination while outside the vehicle. You simply select it on the map in the smartphone app and it is sent to the car’s on-board computer. The new Volvo On Call also includes a thermometer that measures the outside temperature. If it is very low, the owner can switch on the heating and schedule it before getting into the car.

For 2013, features related to vehicle security have also been introduced. For example, it shows whether the car is running, whether the central locking has been engaged, and a tracker of its position. The latter is more useful when looking for the car in a car park, as the lights can be flashed or even the horn sounded from the smartphone.

Volvo On Call even keeps the vehicle’s maintenance under control, as it records whether there are issues such as brake fluid levels, oil level or blown bulbs. The app has exclusive functions for the V60 Plug-in Hybrid, such as the battery energy level or a charging scheduler, as well as a charging reminder.
