Volvo XC60 and XC90 B4 and B5: price of the Volvo SUVs with ECO label
Volvo now has on sale the new mild-hybrid versions of its XC60 and XC90, two SUVs that carry the DGT ECO label.
More and more options are available for choosing a SUV with a DGT ECO label, thanks to the popularity of Mild-Hybrid light hybridisation technology. At least until the DGT reviews the criteria for awarding this label to cars that are not really hybrids. When that happens, a good number of cars are expected to drop off the list.
But in the meantime, the reality is that Volvo already has two hybrid SUVs on the market that carry the ECO label, in addition to its plug-in hybrids, which carry the CERO label. The latter, at least for now, do not appear to be in question, regardless of engine power.

Provided, of course, that an electric-mode range of over 40 km is maintained, as in the case of the Volvo XC60 T8 and XC90 T8, which have just debuted a powertrain update with a new battery and new charging system, increasing power to 420 CV and range by 15%.
SUV, diesel and with ECO label
In the case of the Swedish brand, two versions of the Volvo XC60 are being added to the range with mild-hybrid system, and one on the Volvo XC90. For now, the Volvo XC40 is left without ECO or CERO label versions, pending the future electric versions of the XC40 and the XC40 plug-in hybrid.
In all cases, the engine is the 2-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel, in its 150 CV (B4) or 190 CV (B5) versions, to which an electric motor of 14 CV is added that acts as alternator and starter motor, with an energy recovery system. Volvo claims a 15% efficiency improvement over the equivalent versions without mild-hybridisation.

All “B” versions with this system, in both the XC60 and XC90, are offered always paired with all-wheel drive AWD, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
On the Volvo XC60, average consumption starts at 5 l/100 km, both for the B4 and the B5. As there is no D4 or D5 with automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, we cannot make a direct comparison in price and consumption to see how far the Mild-Hybrid versions are worthwhile. For reference, an XC60 D4 4×2 Automatic of 190 CV homologates a consumption of 4.9 l/100 km, and is available from 48,765 euros.
With these versions, the Swedish SUV adds to the reasons why we consider the Volvo XC60 to be one of the best premium SUVs in its category.
