The new Volvo XC60 has been the model that obtained the best score in the EuroNCAP tests during last year, 2017, for which it has been awarded the Best in Class prizes that recognize the safest models of the year, both in their segment and on a global scale. The EuroNCAP tests analyze the safety of all the models put on sale during the year through demanding and rigorous crash tests that allow analyzing the performance of the various systems and assistants the vehicle has in its equipment and the real protection they offer both to its occupants and to pedestrians.

The new Volvo, analyzed in the large SUV category, almost achieved perfection in its tests. In the tests, the new XC 60 obtained 98 percent of the possible points in the Adult Occupant assessment, and 95 percent in Safety Assist, where it surpassed the next competitor in its category by 20 percentage points.

“The new XC60 is one of the safest vehicles we have ever built,” said Malin Ekholm, Vice President of the Volvo Cars Safety Centre. “It is packed with new technology designed to help drivers, protect the vehicle’s occupants and other road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, as well as reduce the risk of collision,” she added.

With the achievement of a new EuroNCAP award with the XC60, Volvo maintains its traditional image as a brand specialized in safety. The XC60 repeats the successes previously achieved by other models of the brand which, like it, were also chosen as the best in their class. In 2015, the XC90 also obtained these same “Best in Class” awards for the best large SUV and for the best overall result of the year, and the Volvo V40 earned the corresponding award in the small family vehicle category. Volvo is the first manufacturer to have achieved the awards corresponding to the three top categories in the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) tests carried out by EuroNCAP: AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban and AEB Pedestrians.

“We are proud that the ongoing commitment of Volvo Cars to innovation in new safety features has been recognized with another ‘Best in Class’ award,” said Ekholm. “Our vision for the future is that by 2020 no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new-generation Volvo vehicle. The achievements of the XC60 are an example of our commitment to developing the most advanced safety and support systems, while we continue to strive to realize that vision”.
