Chinese brands are stepping up their game in crash tests: the VW New Bora, the Chery A3 and the Roewe 550 have achieved five stars in crash tests from CATARC (China Automotive Technology and Research Center).

The VW New Bora, being a product of a European brand, is only logical that it could earn the stars. The Roewe 550, despite being from SAIC, has good build quality and finish, superior to many other Chinese products, so the test results once again reflect its quality and open the door to its arrival in Europe.

The surprise is perhaps delivered by the Chery A3, which seems more solid than it looks and than the rest of the brand’s products. The results were influenced by improvements in impact absorption, dashboard design and good safety equipment, including multiple airbags, EBD and ESP, which make all three models a good recommendation, especially compared with other Chinese models.
