We analyse the range and price of the Renault Zoe so you know which configuration to choose

With the launch of the new generation, it is worth analysing the range and price of the Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe is one of the “veterans” in the catalogue of electric cars on offer at Spanish dealerships. In fact, it was introduced more than five years ago and, recently, it has undergone an extensive update to face the new decade.

However, this new phase represents an advance, above all, in terms of the technology of its electric propulsion and energy storage system, without compromising something as critical as the price of the Renault Zoe.

In the road test of the 2020 Renault Zoe, which we published and you can read on our sister site Drivingeco.com, it became very clear that this car offers more than enough reasons to become one of the benchmarks among these vehicles and, why not, among everyday city cars.

Nuevo Renault ZOE 2020Therefore, and to offer a version that is as closely tailored as possible to the needs of its users, we are going to analyse the range and price of the Renault Zoe.

The equipment levels of the new Renault Zoe

To begin with, it is worth noting that it is offered with three Renault equipment levels, Life, Intens and Zen, and with two power outputs, 80 and 100 kW.

The most significant differences in terms of trim lie in exterior elements or features such as the 15-inch wheels with wheel covers on the Life or the standard 16-inch aluminium wheels on the Intens and Zen.

Nuevo Renault ZOE 2020The same applies to the mirror housings, which are the same colour as the bodywork on the two upper trims and black on the entry-level version. Furthermore, the Zen has electric mirrors with electric folding and an electrochromic interior mirror with rain sensor.

The multimedia system with EasyLink connectivity is standard on the first two and features a 7-inch screen, while the third equips a 9.3″ screen and includes navigation.

Inside, the Intens and Zen include a 1/3 or 2/3 folding rear seat row that increases boot capacity. The Zen features upholstery made from recycled fabric.

As for driver assistance and safety systems, the Life lacks front or rear parking assistance, automatic high beam switching, sign recognition, lane keeping assist, etc., which do appear on the top of the range or, at least, are offered as options on the mid-level trim.

The electric system of the Renault Zoe

Only on the second trim, the Intens, is the choice between the two power outputs available, since the Renault Zoe Life can only be configured with the 80 kW R110 motor, equivalent to 108 CV, while the top-of-the-range trim, the Renault Zoe Zen, exclusively uses the 100 kW R135 motor, which produces 135 CV.

However, almost more important than these two essential pillars when choosing which version of the Renault Zoe is best according to your needs, is knowing whether you prefer to choose between a battery rental plan or purchasing the battery outright, something that inexorably affects the price of the Renault Zoe.

The differences between renting or buying the battery of the Renault Zoe are, fundamentally, that those who choose the battery rental option would pay monthly according to mileage, the unit would be replaced with another in case of low performance, and they would have 24/7 assistance in case of breakdowns. With the purchase of the battery, there would be no monthly cost per mileage and no maximum limit, and its performance is guaranteed for up to 8 years or 160,000 km.

The Renault Zoe is sold with a 52 kWh battery and a range, on the WLTP cycle, of up to 386 km. Charging times for this battery range from 30 minutes, when connected to a 50 kW DC fast charging point, which would allow another 150 km to be covered, up to 8 hours if charged at a 7.4 kW wallbox to reach up to 300 km of range. Between 1 and 2 hours to achieve 120 km, depending on whether the public charging point is 22 kW or 11 kW.

Nuevo Renault ZOE 2020Thus, according to the brand’s configurator, the cheapest Renault Zoe would be the Life trim with the 80 kW R110 motor and a 40 kW battery on rental from 21,667 euros and, the most expensive, the Renault Zoe Zen with the R135 motor and the 50 kW battery on the purchase option for 32,915 euros, including all discounts and promotions applied by the brand.
