Which is The Stig's favourite car?
Ben Collins, the driver who hid behind the spotless white helmet and suit playing the character of The Stig, was dismissed after the publication of a book in which he revealed the secrets of this mysterious driver. The book is titled: “The Man in the White Suit: The Stig, Le Mans, The Fast Lane and Me”.
British journalists had the opportunity to ask Ben Collins directly which cars had left him with the best memories. His statements are well worth reading.
The 35-year-old driver said: “Probably one of the cars I had the best times with was the Toyota Aygo, since we used it repeatedly to play football matches with it.” He was referring to the famous football matches that Top Gear staged on its show (see attached video), as well as those held at the live Top Gear Live events.
Another of his most cherished memories was when he had the chance to drive the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (1,200 CV and capable of exceeding 430 km/h). “It was the fastest thing I have ever driven in my life”, were Collins’s words.
When asked about the worst car of all, surprisingly, he mentioned a Swedish supercar: the Koenigsegg. “The Koenigsegg is very exciting. We had a great time with it. It was the only one that got away from me, so to speak. For that reason it’s stuck in my memory.” Let us recall that The Stig smashed the front of the CCX into some tyres while doing a fast lap of the Top Gear test track. Collins continued: “It’s a difficult car to drive, very powerful and very expensive. It’s not something you want to crash.”
