A curious BMW 1600 with a trailer goes up for auction

The BMW 1600 with a trailer going up for auction will steal your heart, and it’s restored down to the last detail.

This BMW 1600 from 1968 caught our attention not only for its magnificent restoration, but also for the trailer behind it. Generally, I wouldn’t expect to see a small car like this towing anything, but it looks very good with this color-matched Heinemann trailer. The car and trailer are currently for sale at Bring a Trailer, and we are smitten.

For those who don’t know, the vehicle in question was the predecessor of the famous BMW 2002. The main difference between the two can be found under the bonnet: the 1600 had a 1600 cc version of the legendary M10 four-cylinder of BMW, while the 2002’s engine displaced 2000 cc. Both models overlapped in production for some years, but the more powerful 2002 was built in greater numbers.

The 1600 you’re going to fall in love with

However, none of this is to say the 1600 isn’t great. It may only have around 80 horsepower, but it has a unique look, thanks to its chrome grille. And if you want more speed, you can swap in a 2002 engine or even a new BMW engine. If I owned this car, I wouldn’t. It’s just too cute

Check out the photos! This is a great restoration, apparently overlooking no detail. This 1600 almost looks like a new car, although it isn’t completely original. A 2002Ti steering wheel and a tachometer brighten up the interior, while the car also has H&R springs and Koni shock absorbers. The trailer can carry up to 880 kilograms and is painted Sahara Beige to match the car. It looks perfect with a surfboard on top.

The auction ends in three days, and at the time of publication the bid is up to 19,250 euros. If you want a great car with a cute trailer, place a bid.

The boot features a woven lining that coordinates with the interior floor mats. The gallery shows the removable panels underlying the boot floor, as well as the boot floors, fuel tank, spare wheel, jack and tool kit.

The cabin has been upholstered in brown vinyl with matching carpets. A black dashboard and the upper door surfaces provide contrast, and the car is equipped with a full set of CocoMats, including a matching mat. The car is fitted with an Blaupunkt AM radio and sliding heater controls mounted on the lower dashboard. There is no speaker installed for the radio.

The Heinemann trailer is a ZZ12 model with a nominal weight of 400 kilograms. It is fitted with 8″ wheels. The trailer is finished in Sahara Beige to match the car and features a tubular top rack and a top cover with side hinges finished in red.
