A Ferrari 288 GTO sets a speed record (although it is not exactly a Ferrari)

Just a moment ago, Pablo brought us some interesting acceleration and top speed data for several sports cars, taken by Auto Bild Sportscar. Along similar lines, here is a Ferrari 288 GTO from 1988 that has achieved a world speed record: 440 km/h.
The record was set at the Bonneville Salt Flats and beats the previous record by just 5 km/h. But with all that said, we have to make a caveat that will disappoint many. This Ferrari is not exactly, nor completely, a Ferrari.
Why not a Ferrari? Because it is only one on the outside. Underneath, a tuner has removed the original engine (hopefully it is well looked after), replacing it with a 540-cubic-inch GM V8 and two superchargers. It is not known exactly how much power this Ferrari can deliver, but it is said to be around 1,000 horsepower.
Purists of Ferrari will have frowned, but a Ferrari that sets a record is not something you see every day, even though its heart is no longer from the Cavallino. You can watch the video below.
