Airline Seat Specification: how the most advanced seats in Bentley work

In mid-May Bentley expanded the Bentayga family with the EWB or Extended Wheelbase version, which is the version with an extended wheelbase thanks to an extra 180 mm between the axles to reach 3,170 mm. Thanks to this, the occupants of the rear seats enjoy more space, which in turn improves their comfort, all supported by the gadgets and luxury that Bentley offers us.

Some of these gadgets that we can optionally fit to the Bentayga EWB are the Airline Seat Specification seats, comparable to those found in first class on the best airlines, which make travelling in the rear seats of the Bentayga EWB a true luxury. Today Bentley wants to break down and explore these seats a little more, so that we all know why they are so special.

These seats are described by Bentley as the most advanced in the world installed in a car, and perhaps we have to agree, because seeing everything they are capable of doing, it is probable that in no other vehicle could we feel like this. Obviously they are electric and feature 22 adjustment positions, but the Airline Seat Specification seats are special for other functions they are also capable of performing.

Firstly, they have a seat surface temperature detection system, made up of a series of sensors that measure the temperature of the passenger’s contact surface along with the humidity level, ensuring incredible precision of 0.1 °C every 25 milliseconds. In this way, with the Auto Climate system the passenger can choose the surface temperature from seven possible settings, with the option of focusing only on the back or the cushion area.

Once the occupant has selected the desired setting, the ventilation and heating systems work as quickly as possible to reach the target temperature chosen by the occupant. When this temperature has been reached, the system maintains optimal thermal comfort throughout the journey through micro-adjustments, since although at Bentley they know that humans can detect changes between 1 °C and 2 °C, the Airline Seat Specification seats do this more thoroughly and before the occupant can even notice.

But travelling in the Bentayga EWB, despite all these advances in the Airline Seat Specification seats, can also tire its occupants if the distance to be covered is too long. Logically, the engineers and designers at Bentley have thought about this, developing them with a scientific pneumatic postural adjustment system in collaboration with the specialists at Comfort Motion Global.

In this way the Airline Seat Specification seats are capable of making changes barely perceptible in the contact areas of the seat surface, thus relieving the parts of the body that have been under pressure and then applying pressure to other areas, so that our body is able to relieve itself locally and naturally. In addition, Bentley has studied how fatigue affects especially the lower back and lower limbs, and reducing it in these areas helps to maintain concentration.
