Alfa Romeo 6C: The new coupé from the Italian brand for 2017

Alfa Romeo is resurging with force and eager to once again become a benchmark within the European automotive industry. We have already seen two of the models that will help put it back on the map: the 4C and the 8C. These two luxury cars will be the Italian brand’s flagships in the coming years, but they will be joined by the 6C during 2016.

The Alfa Romeo 6C, if it is finally called that, will be a rear-wheel-drive coupé with a front-mounted engine and will compete in the market with the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911. It is based on the Maserati Alfieri concept that we had the chance to see at the Geneva Motor Show, and whose production has been confirmed for 2016. Immediately after, the 6C will arrive, looking like the design shown in our image gallery.

Like the Maserati concept, it will share the robust, muscular rear haunches and the teardrop-shaped taillights. At the front it will feature a shield-shaped grille combined with LED technology headlights. Overall it will offer an aggressive, dynamic look, perhaps the one that best captures the brand’s new image.

It will be built on the platform of the Alfieri, a shortened version of the one used by the Maserati Ghibli. The engine under the bonnet is expected to be the Ghibli’s most powerful unit, a 3.0 Twin-Turbo V6, which gives the car its 6C name. We know this engine delivers between 480 and 520 CV in the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde, so we expect it to maintain this range to make the car a worthy rival to the models it aims to beat.

It will not be a car we see regularly on the roads, as, just like the 4C and the 8C, which will only have 3,500 and 500 units respectively for their coupé versions and the same number again for the convertibles, it will have a limited production run of several thousand.
