Alfa Romeo could be developing a supercar set to arrive in 2023

Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, dreams of developing a modern Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Will we get to see it?

Alfa Romeo could be developing a supercar that we will see in 2023. According to some sources, Alfa Romeo is working on a supercar to celebrate the creation and maintenance of its F1 team and the death of the glorious twin-turbo V6 engine under the bonnet of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Specifically, a specialist source recently spoke with Alfa’s CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, who has the mission of building a “final” combustion model before the company becomes electric in 2025. Alfa Romeo recently surprised the world by stating that it will move away from its sporty image to become more rational. This news came via Alfa’s head in the United Kingdom, Damien Dally.

Developing this supercar with a combustion engine makes sense, given that neither the Formula 1 team nor the combustion engines of the Visconti brand will be around much longer. Audi is about to buy 75% of the Alfa Romeo Orlen F1 operation, which officially belongs to Sauber.

Everything we know about Alfa Romeo’s future supercar

“If one day I can say ‘OK, Alfa Romeo is secure now’, then the Duetto and the 33 Stradale are my favourite options for the future. I would like to bring them to market. We can dream,” Imparato assured.

According to an earlier report, the Duetto will return as an electric vehicle, which makes the 33 Stradale the probable candidate. The 33 Stradale was one of the world’s first mid-engined supercars, produced at roughly the same time as the Lamborghini Miura. It is worth mentioning that only 18 Alfa Romeo Stradales were built.

This is not the first time Imparato has hinted at a modern 33 Stradale, but just a few months ago he hinted at an electric model rather than a combustion powertrain. The Alfa Romeo F1 team will slowly become the Audi F1 team and, on the road-car side, the brand will slowly leave its sporty image behind to produce a range of electric vehicles. This is a long way from the same brand that built two special-edition models to celebrate its brief return to F1.
