Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Cars Curiosities SUV
Already more than 100,000 units of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV have been sold

Mitsubishi is celebrating because, globally, it has already sold 100,000 units of its hybrid SUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
The Mitsubishi Outlander arrived on the market in 2012 as a large model, with the option of seven seats and, most importantly, a plug-in hybrid variant. This hybrid version positioned itself as the most affordable alternative for customers looking for a mid-size SUV with a hybrid drivetrain. The rest were considerably more expensive.
Perhaps 100,000 units over roughly four years is not a huge number of sales worldwide. But the most interesting point is that, since the model underwent a facelift at the beginning of this year, over the last four months more than 15,000 units have been registered in Europe. It could therefore be said that the makeover carried out a few months ago is bearing fruit.
As for the mechanical side of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, it features a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 121 CV and 190 Nm of maximum torque with an electric motor of 82 CV. In total, 203 CV according to homologation data. In any case, those more than 200 CV are not aimed at sporty dynamics but quite the opposite: enough acceleration capacity at certain moments, but in normal conditions to cruise very smoothly. Its homologated petrol consumption may seem laughable, at 1.8 litres per 100 km. But no, don’t expect to achieve that average with a full tank, since the homologation cycle makes maximum use of electric charge over the 100 km.

Mitsubishi is also pleased with this model in Spain, where it states that during 2015 it was the best-selling plug-in hybrid in our market.
Of the 100,000 units sold, more than 33,700 have been sold in Japan, more than 65,500 in Europe and just over 2,000 in Australia. The Japanese brand believes sales will pick up after the summer, when the model reaches the US market.
