Opel Astra 1.6 CDTI BiTurbo, high-tech diesel for the German compact

Opel has announced the launch and immediate availability of the most powerful and technologically advanced diesel variant in its compact range, the Astra.
We’re talking about the 1.6 CDTI BiTurbo version, which arrives to meet the needs of the most demanding drivers.
The current generation of the Opel Astra was launched on the market in 2015, and from the very beginning it was a huge success, improving on its predecessor in absolutely every respect. Today, the current Astra is one of the smartest buys in the C-segment, the most hotly contested in our country.
However, simply sitting back and enjoying the success is not enough unless you want the rest of the rivals to take advantage and overtake you on the right. Until now, the Astra’s diesel engine range was crowned by the 1.6 CDTI engine with 136 CV, a powertrain that, while more than sufficient for the vast majority of buyers, failed to satisfy the demands for sportiness and performance of the more “hardcore” drivers who need to use diesel vehicles in their daily lives.
With this engine, the Astra offers a very balanced version in which performance and dynamism blend perfectly with the running economy and low consumption typical of a diesel. It is a high-tech engine with exquisite refinement, showing a remarkably smooth operation.

This engine becomes the most powerful within the diesel range of the Astra
The powertrain of the Astra 1.6 CDTI BiTurbo is based on the aforementioned 1.6 CDTI with 136 CV, subjected to a series of mechanical and electronic changes. The main one is, obviously, the inclusion of a second turbocharger with which it manages to deliver greater power (160 CV) and high torque (350 Nm) from very low revs, specifically 1,500 rpm, making its operation easy and pleasant at all times.
These figures are associated with the lightness of the whole, since the Astra is, after two generations carrying some “excess weight”, one of the lightest compacts in its segment thanks to a slimming regime that has shed no less than 200 kg compared with the previous generation.
In terms of performance, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Astra BiTurbo is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 220 km/h. Special mention goes to its in-gear acceleration, and as proof, the 7.5 seconds it needs to go from 80 to 120 km/h in 5th gear.
Its consumption is equally remarkable, as it homologates 4-4.1 litres on the extra-urban cycle, thus achieving one of the best consumption-to-power ratios on the market. Its price starts from €23,900.
