AM General would consider a civilian Humvee: the return of the Hummer?
AM General is planning a new kit-form variant of the Humvee aimed at civilian use, which would be sold for around 60,000 dollars.

After a long and fruitful production of the Humvee for the armed forces of several countries, the Humvee has become surplus material for the US Army, which will eventually be replaced by other models. But the creator of the original Humvee, which gave birth to the Hummer, is not going to rest on its laurels; they are already working on a civilian version of the Humvee.
It seems the project is quite advanced and the possibilities a Humvee would have in the off-road market are already being investigated, as well as the development cost. The first idea under study concerns a Humvee that would be sold as a kit so each customer can equip it their own way, at a cost of around 60,000 dollars.
Based on what is known about the future off-roader, it will not have much in common externally with the Hummer H1, nor with the Humvee, so AM General would be thinking of a completely new design that would sit halfway between the previous models.
Those who missed the Hummer will receive the news with interest. Those of us who considered the Hummer a monstrosity and a folly will wait to see whether GM can once again put its hands on fire for a hypothetical successor to the Hummer dynasty.
