Another DeLorean is coming, although it has nothing to do with the new Texan company
Although the rights to the legendary DMC 12 are in the hands of another company, the daughter of DeLorean’s founder has created a new company that will keep the name.
The DeLorean DMC12 is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. It is, above all, thanks to the true star of the Back to the Future saga, where it serves as the time machine. Beyond that, it is a model that passed by with more pity than glory and that, from an industry standpoint, was nothing more than another failure.
But fate has had it that it has become a full-blown icon and that the brand is about to return to the market. And be warned, not with a single brand, but with two. The already well-known DeLorean Motors Reamagined LLC, which operates under the classic name DeLorean Motor Company, is joined by DeLorean Next Generation Motors.

DeLorean’s heir company
What underlines the importance of this new company jumping on the DeLorean bandwagon is that it was founded by the daughter of John Z. DeLorean, Kat DeLorean. Under this name, DNG Motors is working on a new model under the DeLorean banner that will be called Model-JZD. This model will be officially announced at the end of 2022 and will begin assembly in 2023.
The place chosen for production of the Model-JZD is the former Motor City of Detroit, an emblematic location for the American automotive industry. The heritage of the original company is preserved, since several of the company’s original members from the 1980s are present in the design department.
The company will not focus its activity solely on manufacturing cars, but also wants to foster collaboration between the company and several secondary schools to create training programs for their students. They will also collaborate with other companies to create synergies and overcome the many challenges facing the industry.
Although the name DeLorean will not appear as predominant in this company and its models, its spirit will still be present in everything they do, since it is the company that has a direct relationship with its founder. The images accompanying this article are of the new DeLorean Alpha 5 concept, which was designed by the other company, the one that bought the rights to the legendary car.
