Aston Martin presents the DBX Bowmore Edition, an exclusive limited edition that will also bring a personalised experience for its future customers

We have often seen brands from outside the automotive world partner with vehicle manufacturers to bring together sometimes rather disparate worlds, and an example of this is today, after Aston Martin announced the exclusive special edition DBX Bowmore Edition. For those who are not familiar with it, Bowmore is a Scottish whisky distillery with more than 240 years of history, based on the Isle of Islay, and it will not only lend its name to this limited edition but also some curious elements.

The new Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition has been created by Q by Aston Martin, the British house’s vehicle personalisation service, which, just a few months ago, we saw also took on the DBX to bring us a special edition that added elegant aesthetic and equipment touches to the brand’s new SUV. It must be said that this is not the first time Aston Martin and Bowmore have collaborated to create a special edition; they already did so in 1964 with the DB5 as the main star, and almost 60 years later they are joining forces again, but now not only to create a special vehicle, but also to offer a unique experience to their owners.

For the DBX Bowmore Edition, Q by Aston Martin has created a unique body colour that will be exclusive to this limited edition, called Bowmore Blue, although any customer who does not like it may choose one of the other alternative colours on offer. Regardless of the colour chosen, customers may optionally add the paint accent Xenon Grey, which adds blue metallic flecks scattered across the bodywork. Copper inlays taken from Bowmore’s stills have also been fitted to the side air outlet mouldings and, optionally, the brake calipers can be ordered in black, a colour also used for the badges.

Inside the Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition there are also changes and, broadly speaking, customers can order it in Obsidian Monotone or in the combination Coope Tan Metallic/Obsidian Duotone, with both featuring details in the Bowmore Tweed colour as a tribute to the Isle of Islay. To this are added elements such as polished copper cup holders and a gloss black centre console trim with bespoke copper foil details, as well as several Q by Aston Martin accessories such as a picnic blanket or a leather bag. In addition, on the door sills we find plaques announcing this special edition, which have been made from recycled copper from Bowmore’s original still.

Where there is no novelty is in the mechanical make-up of the Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition, which continues to use the 4.0-litre V8 that delivers a power output of 550 CV together with 700 Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox with torque converter. Thanks to this setup, the DBX accelerates to 100 km/h in around 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 291 km/h.

Only 18 units of the Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition will be built for the whole world, a figure that matches the age of one of Bowmore’s most select whiskies. The future owners will also enjoy a unique experience: they will collect their vehicle in Edinburgh and then embark on a 273 km journey past Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park; they will then take a ferry to the Isle of Islay, where they will spend three nights and can also visit the Bowmore facilities to fill, straight from the cask, a bottle of 39-year-old whisky and visit the No. 1 Vaults, home to the oldest maturation warehouse in the world.
