Aston Martin revives the DBS Superleggera name for its next super GT
After 6 years of absence, since the DBS V12 ceased production, Aston Martin revives the DBS name for a new model linked to the Superleggera surname

Every time the DBS name is mentioned in connection with Aston Martin, a shiver should run through our bodies, because those three simple letters hide the flagship models in terms of sportiness of the English brand. For six years, Aston Martin had not used this nomenclature, when in 2012 the Aston Martin DBS V12 ceased production after five years on the market as the successor to the Vanquish.
Now, once again after these six years, the English manufacturer will revive the DBS name for one of its models, which will also carry the legendary Italian surname Superleggera. The upcoming Aston Martin DBS Superleggera will be a new high-performance sports car, light as its name suggests and powerful, a model that, as Marek Reichman, Creative Director of Aston Martin, has indicated, will push the limits of performance and design, giving it distinctive traits worthy of carrying such an iconic name.

Secrecy surrounding this model is absolute, so we cannot yet offer you official data. In fact, the test mules spotted for the DBS Superleggera use the base of the DB11. Nevertheless, in the words of Andy Palmer, the company’s CEO, the DB11 will be the starting point for the DBS Superleggera, but adapted to the needs and philosophy of this new model.
As for its exterior styling, we can offer little or nothing beyond what can be glimpsed in the video Aston Martin released to announce the DBS Superleggera, in which, at least at the front, we can make out the characteristic design that the Gaydon house imprints on its models, probably accompanied by an aerodynamic kit. Despite the camouflage on the test mules, we should not trust parts that look identical to the DB11’s, since, as they use its base, these may be modified in the final design.
Regarding its engine, we cannot confirm anything either, although rumours suggest that the 4.0-litre V8 of AMG origin will not be used, and instead the company’s own twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 fitted to the Aston Martin DB11 will be. This engine delivers 600 CV in the DB11, but the DBS Superleggera is expected to see its power increase to 700 CV after the necessary adjustments.
For the time being, this is all the information we can offer about the DBS Superleggera, although we probably will not have to wait long to learn more, since, as announced in the video, its world premiere will take place in June, with sales possibly starting at the end of this same year.
