Audi A1: the semi-convertible is confirmed and competition for the Nissan Juke is announced

It seems it’s our turn for convertible rain. If yesterday we showed you the BMW i8 Roadster, now it’s time to show you something a bit closer to orthodoxy with the Audi A1 Cabrio we already knew about; in fact, we were among the first to bring you the first news on the subject, and now we’re completing the jigsaw puzzle of the new model.

From Ingolstadt comes word that the engineers of the brand with the four rings have opted for the semi-convertible layout for the Audi A1 Cabrio, which already has a launch date as it will see the light of day early next year. As we had predicted, the A1 Cabrio will not be a full convertible but a section of the fabric roof will be the part that folds back to leave the roof uncovered. What is not yet known is whether the roof will be retractable in sections or in one piece, two of the alternatives being studied for the case.

On the other hand, Audi will move into the small SUV territory, mainly seeking to be a benchmark against the Nissan Juke, a model that takes a good percentage of sales in the segment. For this reason, the Ingolstadt brand is preparing “its own Juke”, possibly called Q1 or Q2, which would adopt part of the A1 platform with its own changes in height. This new model could see the light of day at the end of 2013.
