Audi unveiled the concept of a new luxury electric car at the Frankfurt Motor Show: the Audi Aicon. The prototype has a range of up to 800 kilometres on a single charge and, according to its designers, the vehicle combines power with design and sustainability.

The Audi Aicon is a kind of four-door “robot taxi” with 2+2 seats that has no steering wheel, pedals or seat belts. With a length of 5.44 metres and a height of 1.50, its spacious interior features two swivelling seats and a dashboard with a OLED touchscreen that includes eye tracking and a personal assistant. The configuration of the Audi Aicon offers a total boot capacity of 660 litres, in addition to the numerous storage spaces in the cabin.

What has attracted the most attention in this novel design is its technology under the bonnet. The model features four motors producing a combined 354 CV of power and 550 Nm of torque. Each motor drives one of the large 26-inch wheels, and the car offers a variable quattro all-wheel-drive system. Recharging has also been reduced to a minimum. Thanks to an 800-volt system, the Aicon’s batteries can be charged to 80% of their capacity in less than 30 minutes, including an inductive (cable-free) charging system.

The Aicon concept features an innovative LED lighting system with 600 3D pixels and no headlights, which even warns pedestrians and cyclists of dangerous situations with light movements. When the occupants leave the Audi Aicon in the dark, a “welcome light” activates automatically, and a mini drone with a torch safely lights the user’s path on foot.

For the moment the model is only a concept, but according to the German brand, the Aicon serves to show what cars of the future will look like.
