Audi e-moji: The first emoji for electric cars?

World Emoji Day is here and to celebrate it, Audi has created a very special emoticon. It is called Audi e-moji and aims to pay tribute to the Audi e-tron.

Audi, on the occasion of World Emoji Day, has launched an initiative aimed at adding an emoticon representing the electric car. It is called Audi e-moji and aims to pay tribute to the Audi e-tron, the first electric car from the brand with the four rings, which we have already had the chance to test in Bilbao.

The campaign launched by Audi seeks to represent the electric car in this popular language of images and pictograms used on smartphones and other mobile devices we use every day.

If we browse the vehicle category of our instant messaging apps, we can see vehicles of different colours, buses, trucks, motorcycles or motorised wheelchairs, but until now there was no emoji for the electric car.

The emoticon proposed by Audi has a name of its own: the Audi e-moji, which, in addition to illustrating the electric car, represents the first electric vehicle from the brand with the four rings. The Audi e-tron. The vehicle is presented in galaxy blue, with the octagonal Singleframe grille, Matrix LED headlights and Virtual Mirrors, not to mention the charging post.

World Emoji Day, special mention for the electric car

Audi has not only proposed to the Unicode Consortium, the organisation that regulates emojis, the inclusion of the Audi e-moji in the emoticon language in the next Emoji release. At the same time, the brand with the four rings has launched a petition on the digital platform change.org/audiemoji, where users who support the initiative can sign in favour.

The brand with the four rings is not the only one wanting to pay tribute to the electric car. Electrify America is also preparing something. The company has created an emoji in the shape of an electric saloon at a charging station. It has also been submitted to the Unicode Consortium. It is officially called ‘Electric vehicle with charger’, and Electrify America hopes it will join the 230 emoticons that are currently available.

The creation of this emoji is important because electric car sales are expected to rise to 10 million units a year by 2025. Rich Steinberg of Electrify America has stated that “we hope that an emoji, a symbol used in everyday digital communication, will help more people get used to the idea of driving an electric vehicle and get excited about the possibility of owning one someday”. He added: “As electric vehicles become more popular and charging station networks continue to expand, we feel it was time for an emoji that reflects the changing industry and the future of transport.”
