From PlayStation to the racetrack. Audi makes its virtual sports car a reality, the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo, with 3 electric motors and 815 CV, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.5 s.

If you own a PlayStation and play Gran Turismo, you have probably already driven the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo. A virtual concept car originally developed exclusively for the world’s most famous racing game.

Now, as a demonstration of its commitment to electric mobility, Audi confirms that the electric supercar is leaving the screens to become reality.

And it’s true that, just 11 months after the virtual car was unveiled to mark the 15th anniversary of the popular PlayStation game, the brand with the four rings surprises us with a fully functional prototype.

Decorated, no less, with the colours of the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO, elevated to legendary status by drivers such as Hans-Joachim Stuck and Walter Röhrl in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo will debut at the ePrix of Rome in the Formula E championship, where Audi competes officially.

And it will do so as a “race taxi”, a car in which VIP guests and various personalities will drive laps of the circuit as an activity included in the race’s event programme. At the wheel will be former DTM driver Rahel Frey and Le Mans winner Dindo Capello.

Could this be a preview of the brand’s announced future electric road sports car? Not in terms of design, because from the outside the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo looks more like a “tuned” Audi R8.

But take note of what, according to Audi, this prototype hides inside: an electric propulsion system with two motors on the rear axle and a third motor on the front axle.

A total system output of 815 CV is announced, with a total weight of just 1,450 kg. If you run the numbers, that gives a power-to-weight ratio of 1.78 kg/CV, one of the secrets behind this sports car accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.5 seconds.
