Audi SQ2: a sporty SUV with plenty of character

The Audi SQ2 becomes the fastest SUV in its class, thanks to the 2.0 TFSI engine producing 300 CV, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

It has been a long wait, but the sportiest version of the Audi Q2 family is finally here. The new Audi SQ2 made its debut at the Paris Motor Show, flexing its muscle… and laying the foundations for a category that will soon welcome new contenders. And it’s true: there is no other SUV on the market as quick as the new SQ2. The closest to it will be the upcoming BMW X2 M35i, which will launch in a few months.

2.0 TFSI engine with 300 CV and S tronic gearbox

The new Audi SQ2 hides under its bonnet the well-known four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI from the brand. In its latest evolution, this engine already features technologies such as dual injection (indirect at partial load, direct in all other situations), reduced internal friction and a gasoline particulate filter.

But what matters are the figures. And in the SQ2, they are nothing short of impressive. It delivers 300 CV, and peak torque reaches 400 Nm, held constant between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm. Coupled to a very quick seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, it allows the Audi SQ2 to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Genuine sports-car figures.

quattro all-wheel drive for the fastest Audi Q2

As is customary on the Audi “S” models, power is delivered to the road through the quattro drive system. Here, the component responsible for distributing engine force is a hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch, working together with the selective torque control system for each wheel, which lightly brakes the inside wheels in corners.

The aim, even though this is an SUV, is not so much to ensure off-road capability, but to make the most of the engine’s power when driving sportily. Remember that this is an “S” model. For that reason, the SQ2 also includes a specific suspension tuning and progressive steering as standard, with the body lowered by 20 mm. The tyres are 235/45-18 (19-inch wheels with 235/40 tyres are optionally available), and the powerful braking system includes 340 mm front discs and 310 mm rear discs.

Aesthetically, the Audi SQ2 stands out with its distinctive grille, front splitter, standard LED headlights, side skirts, aluminium-finish mirror housings, roof spoiler and a diffuser with four exhaust outlets.
