Renault EZ-ULTIMO: the future of premium mobility according to Renault

Renault completes its trilogy of robotized prototypes with the Renault EZ-ULTIMO, a luxury, electric, connected and autonomous super saloon.

The Renault EZ-ULTIMO is the third prototype in the saga of robotized vehicles with which Renault imagines the mobility of the future. The first was the Renault EZ-GO, a concept designed for shared urban mobility. The second, the Renault EZ-PRO, a true delivery specialist. Now comes the EZ-ULTIMO, the proposal to change the experience of road travel.

As a robotized vehicle, the EZ-ULTIMO is a self-driving, connected car. And given that it comes from Renault and is a future concept car, we could not expect anything other than a one hundred percent electric propulsion system. Look at its dimensions, because it is even larger than it seems. Its length is 5.7 metres, with a width of 2.20 metres. Proportionally it is very low, at just 1.35 metres in height. The wheelbase is enormous: 3.88 metres.

To ensure the manoeuvrability and agility of a car this large, the Renault EZ-ULTIMO features four-wheel steering 4Control, which Renault already uses on some models in its range. The total weight stays at 1,800 kg, which is not much considering its size, and since it is an electric car, the battery implications that entails apply. Traction is to the front wheels.

The ideal solution for premium mobility services

Among the proposals that Renault has in mind for a car of this kind are unique premium experiences. Thus, the EZ-ULTIMO would be an ideal car for services offered by specialised companies such as luxury hotels or airlines. Also for mobility service operators such as limousine hire or private hire vehicle companies.

Its status as a level 4 autonomous car, according to the categories of autonomous cars defined by SAE International, means that the EZ-ULTIMO can not only control the distance to the vehicle ahead, but also change lanes, overtake and even turn at an intersection autonomously. And it can do so both in the city and on an extra-urban journey, as long as the area it drives through is mapped and the car can connect to road infrastructure such as traffic lights, toll booths, etc.

Among the main features of the EZ-ULTIMO, the way the enormous side door opens to ease access to the cabin, without a central pillar, is worth highlighting. Once inside, passengers enjoy the sense of space afforded by the flat floor, the brightness allowed by the huge panoramic roof and the large glazed surface, and an atmosphere of retro style (with materials such as marble, velvet and walnut wood), in homage to the brand’s 120 years.
