Audi would be very close to acquiring Alfa Romeo and Magneti Marelli

Although Sergio Marchionne has denied for many months that he would sell Alfa Romeo, it seems that the moment has now come to let go of one of the most emblematic brands in history. Alfa Romeo could be about to pass into the hands of Audi, if the negotiations that have begun over a possible sale of the brand reach a successful conclusion.

But there is more. The sale would not only cover Alfa Romeo as a brand, but Audi is also very interested in buying the Italian plant at Pomigliano d’Arco, a historic site if ever there was one in Alfa’s history. The idea is to build Alfa Romeo there again, after the 159 was discontinued in 2011.

At the same time, Magneti Marelli would also be for sale. The sale of this company within the group would reportedly already have been decided by Marchionne in order to raise a little more capital for Fiat, which is currently seeking to complete its partnership with Chrysler and finance its ventures in Europe.

Alfa Romeo and Pomigliano d’Arco are two names very dear to Italians in this world, especially to the trade unions. Marchionne will have to face the opposition of the unions, although a Audi factory in southern Italy, producing at a respectable rate, is nothing to be scorned in the current times we live in.
