BAIC will launch a new brand with Saab technology

Each time, Saab’s story reminds me more of the fall of MG-Rover and the brand’s rebirth in China. Because little by little more details are emerging about the sale of Saab technology to BAIC. According to Autoblog, BAIC will build a new factory to produce 100,000 units a year of a new brand under which it will sell products based on Saab.

The new brand’s range will include three to five models that will use Swedish platforms, because let’s remember that BAIC has technology from the Saab 9-3 and the complete patents of the previous generation Saab 9-5. But the most curious part of the news is that BAIC will also use Saab’s famous turbocharged engines, undoubtedly a hallmark of the Swedish brand.

At this point, with no further news from GM confirming a change in Saab’s situation, I fear it is very possible it will end up being sold off in pieces, or that these BAIC models could even reach Europe because they would have a good platform and good engines.
