The fans of the Bavarian brand had hoped that BMW would repeat the feat of building the most radical version of the M3 after the spectacular CSL E46, and whose results would be even better given the performance the new model already has.

Unfortunately, their wishes will not be granted, since the head of the M division, Ludwig Willisch, has officially stated that the M3 E92 will not have a Coupé-Sport-Lightweight version. Instead, they are focusing on finishing the more powerful versions of the X5 and X6, which are increasingly seen in road tests.

Had it become a reality, the M3 CSL E92 would have produced between 450 and 470 horsepower, around 100 kg less weight thanks to numerous carbon-fibre components, and competition tyres.

During the interview with CAR magazine, Willisch also denied that there would be an M3 Touring, an M version of the 1 Series, and reconfirmed officially the decision not to build a new M1.
