The next generation of the MX-5 will be more striking, according to the design chief of Mazda

Despite the efforts of some conservative sectors of Mazda not to change the style of the little roadster too much, the design chief of the Japanese brand, Laurens Van den Acker, has confirmed that the future generation of the MX-5 will not leave anyone indifferent. Specifically, his words were:
The last one was too conservative and we cannot make another car like that. We have to make it more striking and give it balls.
However, within the brand they are still discussing what direction the MX-5 should take in 2012. The British magazine Autocar has been speaking with other designers, and they state that their intention is for the new generation to not differ so much aesthetically from the rest of the models in the range.
Another clue is that, among its goals, and judging by the renders of the facelift the MX-5 will receive next year, the Nagare prototype designed by Franz von Holzhausen could be one of the influences on the new generation, so it will abandon soft shapes in favour of something bolder.
Since there is still a long way to go before the new MX-5 comes out, it is to be expected that renders and speculation will soon start to appear in the coming years, although who knows whether they will come close to the final result.
