BMW breaks its cooperation with GM on the development of fuel cell vehicles
BMW has broken the agreement in principle it had reached with GM for the joint development of fuel cell vehicles.

Part of the plans of BMW for the development of fuel cell vehicles have fallen through because the German brand has broken the agreement it had reached with GM for development, according to Alexander Bilgeri, one of the spokespeople for BMW. Instead of continuing the cooperation project with GM, the German brand has now decided on Toyota.
The new cooperation plan with Toyota will focus not only on the development of fuel cells, but also on the joint development of lithium batteries that offer greater range per charge. Although none of the representatives of either brand wanted to make statements, GM’s side has treated this as a normal matter, “one of the many cooperations we have with various brands.”
This is not the only cooperation BMW maintains with other brands. The clearest example is the partnership with the PSA Group for the engines of the Mini, as well as some hybrid components for models from all three brands. But the fact is that GM also has an agreement in place with the group to which Peugeot-Citroën belongs, so the future supply of engines for the new Mini could be called into question, if the Americans exercise their right to decide and vote.
The original agreement that BMW wanted to reach with GM involved sharing the Americans’ technology for hydrogen cars, in exchange for BMW having to open its wallet and finance other GM developments. The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell (photo) was one of the models that BMW was examining very closely.
