Motorsport enthusiasts, and BMW followers, will especially appreciate these images and the video of the “camouflage” process of the BMW M Hybrid V8, the prototype with which the German brand will compete in the IMSA series in the 2023 season. A livery that carries a great deal of history.

For now, before the testing phase begins, BMW already lets us see the spectacular lines of the LMDh prototype, as well as revealing its name. And although the livery is described as camouflage, the truth is that many of us wouldn’t mind if it were the definitive one. It is a design by BMW Group Designworks, in which BMW M and Dallara have collaborated, and which pays tribute to the history of BMW M Motorsports in North America. Its designers say that with this livery they have tried to define a “dynamic hybrid electric” future. Whatever the case, what is clear is that you can tell from a mile away that this is an BMW M, one of the main challenges set out in the requirements brief for the designers.

Among the distinctive elements, besides the front with its wide “kidney” grille, the commemorative 50th anniversary logo on the bonnet stands out, along with the twin lights that reproduce the brand’s badge, and a whole series of images of iconic models that form a mosaic hiding the prototype’s bodywork until the presentation of the definitive version. Among the racing cars that appear in one way or another on the bodywork of the BMW M Hybrid V8 are the mid-1970s BMW 3.0 CSL, the legendary BMW M1/C from 1981, the BMW 302i Turbo from 1978, the Z4 GTLM, the M3 E36 GTS-2 and the M8 GTE.
